WHAT IS GO-GO?

At Baby Wale we pay homage to go-go, the District’s own native genre of music. Singer-guitarist Chuck Brown is largely credited as the “Godfather of go-go.”

MUSIC AT BABY WALE

We exclusively play go-go music.  Our playlist is expansive, covering periods from 1970s to the present, and includes rare live recordings as well as studio tracks.  Our playlist grows each and every week, as go go bands still keep cranking on at various venues in and around DC.  Go-go musicians have commented that our playlist is better than their personal collections!

DECOR

Our walls are decorated with authentic vintage screen-printed go-go posters from Globe Posters, primarily from the 1980s. You will get a crash course on go-go history by browsing our posters.

We design our restaurant signage inspired by the colorful, bouncy aesthetics of those vintage go-go posters.  Check out our wine-by-the-glass display and bathroom signage!
